Surfing is a popular activity in which surfers move forward across the water by the force of wave with the help of surfboards. This sport originated in Hawaii and is now practiced all over the world and surfing competitions are held regularly.
The main equipment for surfing is a surfboard. Apart from surfboards, a number of equipments are used by surfers. You should choose your surfing equipments properly to ensure a smooth ride on the waves. Following are some of the commonly used surfing equipments:
- Surfboard: As mentioned earlier, surfboard is the most important surfing equipment. Long surf boards should be preferred for surfing, especially if you are a beginner. Also the surfboards should be light in weight. You should also avoid thin boards.
- Surfboard wax: While surfing, ensure that you have put surfboard wax in your backpack. Surfboard wax will stop you from slipping off the surfboard while paddling and surfing. It is not necessary to apply wax each time on board; instead you can revitalize old wax with comb.
- Protective foam covers: The nose and tail of surfboards are prone to damage due to regular dashing with waves. Protective covers are made of foam and protect nose as well as tail of surfing board from getting damaged.
- Surfboard leash: While surfing, when you fall off the surfboard, you can lose the surfboard. However, if you use a leash, the board is not thrown away from you and you do not lose it. The leash is attached to the board on one end while the other end is fastened to your leg.
- Ding repair kit: You should always put a repair kit in your backpack to repair your surfboard whenever needed.
- Footpads: Nowadays people use footpads instead of surfboard wax.. These footpads are used to provide grip for legs on the board.]
- Sunscreen and sunglasses: You are exposed to the sun for a long time while surfing, especially during the summers. The sun rays can harm your skin and eyes. You should, hence, use sunscreen to protect your skin and sunglasses to protect your eyes.
- First aid kit: Minor injuries can also become problematic without medication. Also, you do not want to leave the surfing session for minor injuries. Hence always put first aid kit in your backpack before going to surfing.
- Backpack: It is used to carry all accessories such as surfboard leash, first aid kit, water bottle, camera, wax, etc.
